White Goat
The night is damp and electric.
A white goat stands on the edge
of a ragged road, with ears perked
and one hoof on the pavement.
The old gray country house
is dimly lit. Shouts can be heard
and the shattering of dinner plates.
Shutters flap in the grinding winds.
The old hoot owl hoots a warning.
Severe rains will come in the morning.
Goat leans with all fours on the pavement.
The night is damp and electric.
