White Cactus Flower

It began simply with a chance encounter
When you pointed to a white cactus flower,
The one you loved amid bounty of colors
When eye-contact held us frozen together.

Soon after, you left with your aromatic air
Leaving behind coyly your heart in my care,
Like a treasure quite rare, I held it close
Till I returned it to you with newfound love.

As we continued to see sites on our tour
You took my sight and held my pleasure,
Accepting shyly when I offered my shoulder
Greeting with a look of fascinating glamour,

Giving me a hug without a physical touch
Stealing my eager mind, claiming it's yours,
Enlisting my gestures to say words of cheer
Delighted by acclaim you wanted to hear.

Exchanging hearts we parted each other,
That's when you gave me your cactus flower.
I hold it in your stead when memories tear up
Mindful, you faded as the flower curled.

Love proves illusory many a time ! After the drizzle of sunshine and warmth, it is sad that their love faded out like the white cactus flower ! The way you handle emotions has a cute subtlety about it....Vijay!

Hi Vijay, amother wonderful write from your pen my friend. You have such a skill when writing feelings and your words always paint such vivid, real pictures in the mind. The ending is sad but does not detract from the beauty of the piece, in your hands, the endong adds to the beauty of the work. An excellent write my friend. have a wonderful Thursday. Beautiful and yet sad, Vijay. At first I was sure that the white flower would flourish into love, but it was not to be. Regards // paul

I love how the lost love always evolve in your poems as they grows towards poignant finish. Vijay your comparison towards it being a cactus flower characteristic for its beauty, yet carrying the thorn of betrayal is brilliant my dear friend. A fave ...Maria

That's a tender type of loving...for an hour of bloom... a day at most then she's gone...leaving thorns to remind you what you're choosing...All the best Vijay
