Whispering Wings
Whispering wings fluttering by -
purple and pink; orange and red.
Sapphire and green ones caught my eye
as they shimmered over my head.
Enchanted, I then ran behind
whispering wings fluttering by
and followed them, hoping to find
where they might go with twilight nigh.
Magically painting the sky,
they flitted too quickly away.
Whispering wings fluttering by
vanished into the waning day.
Beyond the horizon, then gone
like a dream was each butterfly -
a beautiful dream then withdrawn . . .
whispering wings fluttering by.
