Where You'll Be

I don't want to chase down the sun on the beach,
I don't need to stand in the sand with the ocean at my feet,
I don't care to stare into where the water and atmosphere meet,
if it's not where you'll be

Sleep is still sleep even without the promise of a dream,
but why shoot for stars if the moon doesn't dance in their gleam,
I s'pose my hands will never know how far my arms can reach,
if it's not where you'll be

I'll never set sail in the billow of a breeze,
looking down upon the crown onto a canopy of trees,
the song my heart may sing will forever be off-key,
if it's not where you'll be

Now that he and I are separated by ill health, this poem has taken on even deeper meaning than ever. My heart nearly bursts as I read your beautiful words.

Oh, no. I'm so sorry, Wen! I hope you know if you ever need to talk, I am here for you. I also hope you haven't been alone during this time and that you've been able to find comfort in family.

Some delights deserve to be savored more than once. That's why I came back to read this again.

Your poem compels me to experience beauty, purity of feelings, and hopelessness simultaneously. I find this poem tragic, despite it seeming hopeful.

To be made whole by that special person's presence, and caring not for other sweet pleasures unless they are there, is such a true sign of love. Your poem says it all in such a romantic way, it reads like a heartfelt love song. Enjoyed immensely.
