Where Wonder Lingers

I stepped into a world unknown, Where seeds of silence had been sown. New faces turned but did not speak— A quiet strength for hearts to seek. She watched me with a steady gaze, As if to read through subtle haze. No words were said, yet much was told, Through eyes that searched, serene and bold. Her glance, a question held in time, A thread unspooled, a hint of rhyme. Did she see pieces of my past, Or simply feel a shadow cast? I stood unsure beneath her stare, Half in the moment, half elsewhere. Still wondering if she somehow knew The weight of what I'd journeyed through. The past had left a whispered trace, Still echoing in time and space. But I replied with calm and grace, As though no ghost had touched this place. Though riddled with uncertainty, Gratitude took root in me. The questions hung like autumn leaves, But peace was gathered in the sheaves. Now I walk with steps unchained, Among the new, the unexplained. A chapter waiting to be penned, With hopes for healing in the end. I pray for bridges yet unbuilt, For hearts to open, wounds to wilt. For memories that once felt sore, To ache no longer, evermore. Still, her eyes in silence stay, Not far enough to drift away. I carry on with gentle grace, And let the past not leave a trace. Above it all, I hear the sound Of something deeper, all around. Not answers loud, but whispers near— A holy hush that calms the fear. And so, in wonder still I stand, A softened soul, an open hand. Not flawless, no, but firm and free— Becoming all I'm meant to be. ____________________________________________________ Author’s Note: "Where Wonder Lingers" explores the inner stillness that arises when entering a new place burdened by an unspoken past. The poem imagines an exchange of silent glances, loaded with unseen understanding and subtle tension. With gentle rhyme and reflective tone, it captures the mystery of transition—how eyes can speak, how presence can heal, and how faith quietly steadies us. It is about showing up in new spaces, carrying both wonder and resilience.
