Where People Are Few

You're my breath, my life,
My eyes, my sense, my hope -
For your love, I strive
Up and down the slope.
Like the rose under the dew,
Like in a hive the bee -
How merry are you!
Do not leave me, be with me.

You're my friend, my wife,
If I fall, you're my rope.
My everything I wished in life -
Without you, in darkness I grope.
I dreamt not a dream without you,
Ventured not without you in a sea.
I'm lost at the thought of losing you.
Do not leave me, be with me.

In your love my heart is rife,
Your parting it cannot cope -
As long as in it is life,
From envious eyes, let us elope
To a world where people are few,
Wandering together all day free.
I trust, you won't, yet I plead you
Do not leave me, be with me.
