Where Did You Go, My Brother - Translation

This is a TRANSLATION from a Poem in Bengali (a regional language in India) by SAGARIKA DAS, who is my sister. My brother left us on July 5, 2021.

on this rainy day, in the dark...
where are you gone, my sweet brother?
we were all waiting for you,
for your return ...
we all would live together,
we all would surround you.
In this dark night,
where did you go, my kind brother?

with a heart-felt smile, with a heart-felt mind.
you used to extend your supporting hands,
you were for us all,
the sky above.
In this dark night,
where did you go, my sweet brother?

the field was yours,
when you had the ball,
status was never your concern,
it was humility, who were you.
your tolerance was as endless as an ocean,
your love equally knew no bounds,
your heart was as pure
as was your demeanour.
in this stormy night...on a solitary journey...where did you go,
my kind brother?

you created a cherished nest,
with your darling wife,
left the life of true happiness,
severing the bond,
on this rainy day, alone...
please come back, my brother.
