Where Are We Going
Word battles rage in war and peace
tweet and twitter with no retreat,
people in protest taking the heat;
there is a lack of unity spawned
some face eagerly right on wrong,
others turn to the left less noticed
yet neither seem well focused
for the country's best ignition
intentions waver left-right partitions,
does asking questions become sedition?
Diversity exudes untethered
but what could finally bring us all together?
A bully speaking without consequence,
intent clarified with little eloquence?
Allies ignored, enemies adored
power and greed a commodity
while the poor and middle-class policy
bow to established bureaucracy
and words spew ignorant of history
hold us stilled in mystery.
Where are we going
which direction is democracy flowing?
Has the swamp drained, if so, then why so much pain
what have we gained?
Whose words are shouted defiant and louder
does a slogan make us any prouder?
Conservative, liberal,
progressive, evangelical, primeval
do we the people really know
where are we going?
I should stay away from politics for fear of offending someone but our current predicament confuses me. So tired of hearing by partisan, it never comes to fruition. Once again, I am neither right nor left, the one wavering and staggering in between. Morality must still live, even if it appears selfish and ego-centered. Some things, some words are right or wrong, no in-between.
A saying vibrates in my head and seems the most appropriate for our current state of affairs - Dazzle them with brilliance or baffle them with bull....
