Where are all the story songs, like 'Gypsies, Tramps and thieves'? 'The Gambler' and ' a boy named Sue', 'Ruby', where his wife leaves? 'The night they drove old Dixie down', the American Civil War, and 'Coward of the County' where the Gatlin boys got what for? Major Tom was up there, floating round, moonshine down Copperhead road, a Horse with no name trod the sun bleached ground, Georgia Johnny, the devil tried to goad. Honey, we still miss you, and we're still not feeling good, and 'Thriller' with those zombies lurking in your neighbourhood. Nowadays, it's all bootys , and buxom babes, half dressed in their stilettos all cruisin' round where Elvis saw a young man in the ghetto. New music, short attention spans, in years you won't recall, if it wasn't for us poets, there'd be no stories at all!

Nicely done, there's nothing like those songs today. We are the ones who must keep it going.

Oh I love this, Viv. Yes, Where ARE they?? There was this one story of a woman who killed her abusive husband and buried him in her yard. Wish I remembered the name of it. I quite liked that one!!

Yes, it's a ripe genre for story songs, Line, but other muso's pulled it off, such as Gordon Lightfoot with 'The wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald'. True story, and a classic x

Cher song dumb, struck me as/tense Gambler was/laughter Sue caused/upset Ruby to town, took love/very best, outraged they took/know it don't/ to Major Tom, always yawns for/Copperhead & outplaying devil, lyric worthy were/hurry up and die in the dessert already, I to horse said/Honey, see the tree how big its grown always cry, made me and again with your reference did I almost/no hoot to Zombies I give, unless dancing he was. Great write,Viv - sentimental. Was but one, to me not known. Yoda
