Whenever Roses Smile

A birthday rose would find its way each year to where he lay
                 And with each petal, memories would bloom as if to say
I am always with you and all the world can see
              Whenever roses smile in blush, they smile for you and me

A brother’s love with words undone forever haunts my mind
                   A birthday rose, belated prose revealed for him to find
For in his life, I never found the time to be a friend
     And now, until we meet again, these words for him, I’ve penned
