When you are old the world is not unknown and you can count the layers in your soul each one laid down by the life you control wrinkled scars from time, only you own These memories can often disappear never to be remembered anymore they are hidden in the mind forevermore buried layers through time that reappear stories of your life you have never told a silent layered memory to last gives reason your thoughts linger in the past as memories come and go when you're old

Frederic, dear friend, dear poet, the rich depth of your golden pen captures the passage of time, aging and introspection with poetic finesse. Especially striking was "you can count the layers in your soul" -so evocative and visual like tree rings of a long-lived oak. Your poem is insightful, beautiful, poignant like the persistent memories the "disappear" and "reappear" as we grow old. Humans tend to dwell in the past in later years when we don't have many more days ahead. Your perceptive poetic talent shines. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

- A wonderful poem, Frederic - I wrote one - "Accept The Things You Can't Change" - but, not an interpretation of the poem by : W. B. Yeats /"When You Are Old" ... this is what happens when you don't read the contest rules :))) - Best wishes in the contest :) - hugs
