When Two Worlds Collide

Sitting still in a car, looking out And listening within A bright blue wintry sky punctuated With land mines Soft sunshine painting roofs Amid the shattered ruins of Aleppo Undressed trees coated with a silvery frost And the pain of wounded children A quiet peace broken By the fusillade of firepower Birds flutter While shells burst overhead Two worlds apart Combined in one person Listening and watching Serenity and insanity Incongruously together.
