Notes About The Poem

When the Music Dies

Once we sang
songs of summer,
now melodies freeze
in winter winds.

If only tears could
strum guitar strings.
Revealing the truth,
as your voice just lies.

Why whisper words,
fingertips refuse to play.
Sad songs,
hide behind metaphors.
The audience begs for one more,
but the tongue yearns for
a silent serenade.

In the ballad of yesterday,
there were smiles,
affectionate attention and
enchanting embraces.

Today
each song has no soul,
rhythm has lost its spirit.
Wounded lyrics,
dehydrating in empty
chambers of my heart.

Just because you sing it,
does not mean it is true.

Simple Musing

Found this old poem, so thought I would post it.

This poem is filled with many many thoughts and feelings. Very few songs today have a soul or carry a particular meaning but as always your simple musings writes turn into gems. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer

This is a gem, and deservedly to be posted. I agree totally, the meanings in songs now are nowhere close as to the songs written 20 to 30 years ago. Some yes, loads no. These lyric factories that churn them out have no meaning or feelings to whomever wrote them. I'm glad I have poetry, as within such, are fabricated poems, but fabricated with desire amidst my few real life writes. Love this Silent One, very nice :) James :)

Variety of emotions surrounds me as I read this. A relationship based on deceit can be easily found out. Cannot hide it for long. Reminded me of a hindi song which said why are you laughing like this, what sorrow are you hiding behind it? If only tears could strum guitar strings. Revealing the truth, Sad songs, hide behind metaphors. Wounded lyrics, dehydrating in empty chambers of my heart. You are a great poet indeed. Looking forward to reading your daily. Take care. I really like this photo, it matches your words perfectly. Sometimes music leaves you feeling empty inside. It all depends on the lyrics and the melody. Sometimes the mood you are in. This is sad, deep and emotional, all at the same time. ~ Brandy

I love the line "If only tears could strum guitar strings", plus all your many admirable alliterations. Music without soul is junk food for the ears, but when it's done right, the connection to the heart is extraordinary. I don't know if your 'ballad of yesterday' was a reference to the great Beatles' song, but it makes a good case for your theme: haunting, melancholy, longing for a time when "all my troubles seemed so far away". Excellent writing, going in my FAVs. I hope you are well. ~ John

Thank you John, I do not even remember writing it to be honest, sometimes I scribble down lines and then forget abou them.. I do not think it was about the song, yesterday, but I can see the link..

I agree , words are just words the greatest masterpiece music lives within the sorrow be it sorrow or glory. I love your words and your music choice dear friend, may the strings of your guitar find awe and inspiration, and your pen.
