When the Heat Breaks
& the thunder echoes through
the night sky
bringing with it
tantrums of
twisting rain droplets
panging to & fro
from one side of the roofs &
blacktop,
to the old metal rowboats laying
upside down in someone's
back yard,
sending shudders through the
carrying quick moments of relief
for those suffering in the
sweltering
of an earth being baked
but the relentless sun
ushering in the necessity for our
existence,
while at the same time
cooking us to a crisp &
giving us
cancer---
lucky we are to have the
system of checks &
balances
which the universe provides at this
point in time,
because it will not always be &
one day
when Andromeda comes slamming
into us at approximately
250,000 mph.
