When Summer is Gone

Contest: When Summer is Gone
Sponsor: Jcb Brul
1st Place.

"Was it the iris in your heart or was it the whale in my soul?
I thought we were meant to be." ~ the poet

balmy winds stroke my cheeks
soft hands and calloused fingertips
dance their way around my face
tired eyes flutter shut. I feel

waves of oceans with steady currents
a brilliant sun and lemon sand
key lime moss adorning an unbounded shoreline
reflected in coconut pupils,
they are just for you and just for me

when summer is gone,
your touch will not fade
I am the sculpture you pressed life into
the vacant canvas you dyed mulberry blue
though your breaths might,
that love will not falter

and to the young girl who fell asleep counting the stars in your tears,
there will
              always be an us
                                     always... be
                                                      an us.

Just beautiful. This poem has some short lines of brevity punch impact that I didn't see in the others I read. Good poems with brevity soar my poetry adrenaline high! Your short lines did that and the imagery impresses. Congrats, Sweetie for having a poem truly deserving of a trophy. Hugs ... CayCay

Superb stanza showcases the steadfast spirit of love and linkage, lingering despite distance or the drift of days. It features vivid visuals of the wild, treasured tales, and the profound emotional tether between two souls, hinting that their affection surpasses mere physicality and thrives within their thoughts.

Beautifully written Hiba. I just love the line "a brilliant sun and lemon sand". The repetition at the end is very effective too. Cheers - Gary
