When Summer Is Gone

When summer is gone I’ll cling to her last sunbeam bask in the warmth of her eyes and smell deeply the roses of her bloom. When summer is gone I’ll hear the music she had played with endless passion in her voice her slender fingers found notes that pierced my soul. When summer is gone I’ll see her run through the waves laughing at the crazy seagulls hopping over beach towels wet and tossed like scattered memories. When summer is gone I’ll cry for her with a heavy heart realizing she is really gone and I’ll ache inside with a deep longing to cling to her again once more when summer is gone.

My condolences for the loss of your sister. Revelation 21:4 has given me some comfort in times of loss. I don't know how he is going to do that, but I just trust that he will. Loved your poem, especially the third stanza.

Laura, this hits me hard with it's poignancy in your heart and especially since I'm with my Mom who is failing (she's 94) - these loves in life we've "sort-of" always taken for granted...but as we get older ourselves, not so much anymore, so like the seasons---we live - on to the next - LOVE this write like all that you share!

This poem is so well constructed and evocative. The repetitive line gives it strength. The imagery is fabulous. If it is for some contest, I wish you the best. You deserve it.

Losing a loved one is so very painful. I know. May God continue to comfort and uphold you. Thankfully, we have the hope of seeing them again one day.

The metaphor of passing youth is so vivid in this piece. This is a work of art from a polished poet, Laura. There is a beautiful sadness in its passing.

Hi Laura , I'm so very sorry for your loss, no amount of sympathy can undo the pain you feel, but your poem is such a beautiful tribute to a sister you loved and remember with such great affection , she sounded like an amazing and gifted sister, an Irish hug from me . Danny

Thank you for your kind and generous comments on my poem, Daniel! I really did lose my only sister to cancer recently, so this poem is from my heart.
