When Silence Speaks

I languish in the cherished sound
of winter’s chill and summer’s haze
where memories of youth abound
when silence speaks of bygone days.

I search the seasons long since gone
to reminisce another time
where memories still linger on
when silence speaks in verdant rhyme.

Each whisper through the wind redeems
those songs that I had sung before,
where memories instill my dreams
when silence speaks in rhythmic lore.

I sojourn through this mired abyss
in search of days from yesteryear
and as they vanish in the mist,
when silence speaks, they reappear.

The sounds that once had filled my past,
this weary soul forever seeks.
Though memories tend not to last
they all return when silence speaks.

Dear Mark, my inspiring friend, it's a pleasure to return to reread your beautiful poem and to share the podium with you. When "silence speaks" so much is revived and revealed to be relished once again, until memories of songs and seasons, voices and choices fade to "vanish in the mist". My own memories resurrect as I read this poem, such is the potent power of your golden pen. Congratulations for your success in Mark's contest. Warmest wishes, my dear poet friend.. ~Susan

This is beautifully reflective. I love how you give “silence” a voice, letting it carry the weight of memory and nostalgia. The rhythm and rhyme make it feel like a gentle journey through time—peaceful yet poignant. CONGRATULATIONS!

Dear Mark, your poetic finesse is smooth and expressive. Your heart and soul speaks in metrical rhythm and rhyme and wraps the reader into your verse. The repetition of "when silence speaks" is used with great affect. Indeed nostalgia speaks in a silent voice, in a silent and sacred space within us... a yearning voice that is bittersweet when found in the realm of yesteryear. A superb piece! Congratulations for your win in Brian's contest. Warmest wishes my inspiring friend.. ~Susan
