When Pealed the Bells

We all did cry when Father died, when pealed the bells Landscape weary, our eyes teary, the earth stood still Life bereft of meaning, withered plain of empty shells Mourners came from nearby towns and far-flung dells Haunting eulogies, by a lonely gravestone on a hill We all did cry when Father died, when pealed the bells Mom broke down, wept in her gown; she wasn't well Her life's love stolen, it took a toll on her good will Life bereft of meaning, withered plain of empty shells Brother Skip, his lip he bit, emotions quelled Took his cap off, sadly doffed, his blood now chilled We all did cry when Father died, when pealed the bells As for me --Long I wept, heart windswept, at this death knell Against my will, my protests shrill, an all-too-bitter pill Life bereft of meaning, withered plain of empty shells As we shoveled the dirt, our souls hurt, a giant felled Rain began to fall, soaked us all, each drop so shrill We all did cry when Father died, when pealed the bells Life bereft of meaning, withered plain of empty shells

A villanelle is difficult to do. You made this seem like it was done with ease my friend.

Appearances can be deceiving. It took me much longer than usual to finish this villanelle, but the result seems to be pleasing. Thank you for the feedback, my friend. Best wishes, gw

I admire a good villanelle, I have only written one or two and not an easy task! This one even though laced with sadness rocks :). Hugs
