Notes About The Poem

At some point, kids grow up. Little by little, they fight to have their way. They must first, not be spoiled, learn to obey and learn integrity. But, they must take first steps into adulthood. You see the signs along the way - do you hold on or start to slowly let go. If you wait, you might be pulled into the mud.

When Life Tilts

It’s raining of sunless pleasure; smiles and frowns.
Exacting - the priceless presence of nature.
Who will save this family; its ups and downs…
What doesn’t work - scolding of ‘rents’s-legislature.
Oh, we saw the littles pull the drain, the sounds
Of fallen oaks, branches running; teenagers.
Little feet slip and slide; it’s a muddy mess.
Let the kids make tracks - must let go to possess.

You are right Kim. Children when they grow into adulthood should have freedom to act. But in their younger days, they need parental control or else, they will be spoiled.

Kim, this is a normal development toward adult autonomy, and there is no question about the importance of releasing the burden of the past. Great poem.

Loved reading this wonderful true write ✍️from your heart n soul Kim ❤️‍🩹 I only have the one son Sam he's 31when he left home I sobbed myself to sleep found letting go dang hard. So 4 yrs ago when his relationship broke and he was devastated. Came home for Christmas, said mum can I come home. I tried to not get over excited lol he's been home ever since. I raised him on my own since he was 5yrs old. He had a crap abusive dad. He's my pride n joy hugs friend ❤️‍🩹

Aww…thanks, Dorothy for sharing your heart..so honored. When “they” leave home - it’s hard to have an empty nest, but to have an only child, I think a bit harder. I’m sure you’re a wonderful mother.
