When I Was Younger
Hiding from you
was fun.
Running away
was too.
Little games I loved to play,
along with peek-a-boo.
Hide-and-seek,
jumping jacks,
hopscotch, and
making pacts.
Secrets were little.
Friends were the world.
Babies were creatures.
Mommy and Daddy were heroes.
When I was younger,
the world was big.
But as I grew,
I learned quick—
It’s smaller
than I thought.
And now I wish
I could go back
to the world I want.
