When I First Read Your Eyes
To true friendship...
Though it be fifty years ago
That I first read your eyes
The story that they guaranteed
Has ne’er worn a disguise
That friends forever, we would be
Through life’s uncertain ride
And always I have felt the love
Of your voice by my side
It’s not that quarrels never tripped
Or knocked us to the ground
It’s that the bond that made us one
Preserved the love we found
On mornings such as this, I think
Through fog and mist and rain
Of that first time I read your eyes
The sun then shines again
