When Death Comes

When Death resolutely comes With his deadly summons Tarry not like a galley slave But like a courteous host behave Do not waver and do not droop As if you are to be hung on a loop Never dread lying under the dust Within a narrow vault thrust Know, it is only when seeds rot That fresh and florid lives sprout So when it is time to go Strut like an indomitable foe, With swinging hands and head held high To be welcomed by angels of the sky With the music of clanging cymbals And the rising rhythm of sounding bells Into a kingdom, bright and cheerful And a state far radiant and blissful Where the sun shall never set Where blessed souls joyously meet Where Truth and Beauty preside Where peace and bliss abide Ousted out of terrestrial space You’re enfolded into God’s embrace ___________________________ Submitted for 2022 Poetry Marathon. Excellent sentiments, Valsa! Go to the gallows -- a jolly good fellow! (You go first, ok. I'll watch and pick up a few tips. Just kidding...) :)

You have created an enticing excursion towards ecstasy via your poem. Valsa, as usual, your writing is wonderful! It is difficult with most mortals to acknowledge the possibility that they will pass away.

Valsa, part of the joy of Easter is that we don't have to fear death, but can in fact celebrate the passage to Paradise because of what the Savior did on the cross. These beautiful words have helped me celebrate this holy day more fully - thank you!

Life is like grade school, i.e., as soon as you think you understand it, you get boosted to the next grade . . . .Enjoyed! Aloha!

What a profound write! When death comes, it is not yet the end for death is not a wall but a door. Masterfully done! All the best in the contest!

The last couplet/lines are masterful, brilliant. We who know Jesuscwho conquered grave, Cross, & Satan, put death in blissful perspective. Thx Sis. Shalom shalom in the Risen Jesus

Accepting death is hard for most mortals. Your poem makes it a tempting journey into bliss. Well written, as always, Valsa.

Death is always on my mind, but I try not to think of it but live a good moral life. After all I'm 81, riddled with pain so what can I expect? My constant prayer is for a happy death. Hugs.

I'd we lead good lives here on earth then we shouldn't fear death when it comes. It is the beginning of a new journey. Tom
