Painting ~ Lesbia Weeping Over a Sparrow ~ Lawrence Alma-Tadema
I don’t know how many millions or billions
Of sparrows there are, but the Father does
How can he know when each sparrow falls?
He knows every detail because
He is infinite and omniscient
He counts every hair on your head
He cares for the lilies and cares for the birds
He makes certain that each one is fed
What do I say to my little girl
On the day that her grandfather dies?
In that silence when we both know he’s not coming back
I hold her and sing as she cries…
He is infinite in his love for you
To prove it he left heaven’s throne
He died on the cross and he rose from the dead
He’s preparing a place for his own
So why should I worry about my life,
Or what I should eat, drink, or wear
Why should I fear what the future may hold?
Just consider the birds of the air
He is infinite and omnipotent
He knows every path that you tread
He cares for the lilies and cares for the birds
And makes certain that each one is fed
When you grieve for a loss or your life’s at a crossroads,
You don’t know which path is God’s way,
Remember his Word says his will for you
Is rejoice and give thanks and to pray
He is infinite in his love for you
To prove it he left heaven’s throne
He cares for the lilies and cares for the birds
How much more does He care for His own?*
*Matthew 6:26 "Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?"
