What Poets Must Do

Some poets write to glorify the Lord while others like to sing the praises of earth’s beauty or perhaps of their adored. So many write of nature and of love! Some poets have a funny bone. They come up with cute limericks while some write dark! Some rant; some ramble; some write haiku; some can give great thought, while some write on a lark! All poets use the themes that suit them best. Some are eclectic. Others use few styles. It’s not for me to say what is the best. We can inform, inspire, bring tears or smiles. So whether it’s with levity or might, we poets must take up our pens and write! Oct. 9, 2020 for Beth Evans' A Poet's Duty Poetry Contest Submitted Feb. 7, 2022 for 'A STRAND (1068)' Poetry Contest

Huge congrats on POTW my friend! You nailed it, as poets we are to create, to give, to care, to conduct ourselves with honor and in so doing- advance the cause, form, creativity, purpose and beauty of poetry.. If we express heart and soul-- we have done our duty and thus live up to calling ourselves poets. God bless...

I agree dear Andrea. “Poetry comes to me like breathing. I inhale and breathe in the fragrances, flavors, emotions, sentiments, and feelings of people and places and breathe out poetry.” ? Avijeet Das Us, who love to write. We create and we hope. Maybe we can save someone, maybe save ourselves. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.

"All poets use the themes that suit them best" This statement sums it up. We are write differently, and that is perfectly okay. To uplift, to encourage and inspire- to let someone know, I have been in your shoes before. This is what Poets do. Congratulations Andrea, on Poem of the Week. Hugs, Brandy

So perfectly expressed with your signature sonnet flair and enjambments, cadence and rhymes. My thoughts on the subject are yours: eclectic is fine, signature style is fine, write what you know. The main duty is to write! A fave.
