so true, nette: Chicago is a wonderful place with a lot of nice folks... then again, the seamy underbelly in City Hall is just so rotten. Just read yesterday that the 30th alderman since 1980 has just pleaded guilty to corruption charges. We're #1 -- in crime, grime, and corruption... Bully for us... Best wishes, Gershon

Good wrap on Chicago's history. Me - not a city person, concrete, glass and steal are as cold as corruption to me. Pen on! Poetry hugs ... CayCay

I managed to avoid Chicago from age 18 to age 40. And I'm lucky too; I live in a fairly peaceful neighborhood. Thanks for the view and the feedback, CayCay

We built a house in Chicago once. You are singing the "song" of Chicago. I dare not tell you what we had to give to inspectors to get our house built, and in cash, under the table.....

Not at all surprising: The bribes, the kickbacks, the payoffs -- the myriad ways to grease the all the open palms. Makes me want to retch, but that's life in the "City that Works.' A pox on the whole corrupt process. ~ gw
