What Is That Strange Sound

What is that strange sound? I demand.
My husband hears nothing.
You do not hear that?
He shakes his head ‘no’.
“That sound of water running?”
He listens. “You mean the dishwasher?
I guess I do.
Residual benefit of not doing dishes for the past twelve years.

Heh, it's a residual benefit if you have a washing machine. One of the characters of Nabokov's novel "Ada" constantly heard the noise of running water and even talked to her, although she had no dishwasher. As far as I remember, she went crazy. P.S.: I awfully like your everyday sketches, Caren. It's like nothing special happens, but there's something scary about them)

Thank you dear Demetrios! I hope your flowers are thriving. Mine looked sad until yesterday when we got a rain storm!
