What I Ask of You

You may be tired of hearing it,
and don't want to listen anymore.
If that is the way that you feel,
please, just walk out the door.

I need someone who will listen,
when I reach out to share.
A friend who can feel compassion,
and I can count on to be there.

I know that it may not be easy,
to be a friend of mine.
I need to let this play out.
Erase it, then rewind.

Something has happened to me,
that I am working through.
I need understanding and support,
That is what I am asking of you.

If you care enough to stay around,
while I continue to work this out.
Could you stay for the duration,
and encourage when I am in doubt?

Please don't judge me,
you don't know what I have been through.
Maybe just ask this question,
"what can I help you do?"

My answer, " just be there
for I may stumble and fall.
Please reach out to steady me.
Be my friend, that is all."

Thank you,Heidi. Even a real friend can be not so real. But we reach out again, looking someone real.

Sandra, a real friend is almost a thing of the past, "be a friend, that is enough." Real friends just do without being asked.

Sadly, I think you are right about real friends. I don't look for the depth of friendship as I used to. Too many disappointments, even when asking for very little. Thanks Caren
