What Happens If We'Re Wrong- Ii
II.
We were told that one man and one woman
was outdated, too old, and passé,
that any two souls were entitled to
the chance to go and have their big day,
and while on the individual scale
those couples are of no great concern to me,
I have to say some doubts still exist
when I scale it up to society.
In nations where birth rates have been dropping
I wonder does it really make much sense
to celebrate a form of union that
can not naturally bring about children?
And how much longer until polygamists
declare that now their situation is fine,
society suffers when spouses and few,
there has to be somewhere we draw the line.
What of the concerns when gays have kids,
via surrogates or adoptions,
we pray that they’ll grow up to be fine folk,
who would wish suffering on little ones?
But then I remember reading the stats
of children raised by single parents,
more drop-outs and poverty is bad enough,
crime and mental illness…higher percents.
Makes me wonder if there’s things we can’t see
double male or double female, who knows?
Kids need masculine and feminine,
and I fear there’s hard paths this might go.
Will there be problems we do not expect?
I guess we will all now before long,
hate to think of children paying the price,
what will happen if we’ve got it wrong?
