What Do Your Children See
I open a window and look out at the night.
I wonder when it was that we gave up the fight?
To ensure that the freedoms exist for every man.
No matter where his father came from.
I feel the cold night air on my face.
I wonder how we’ve progressed as a human race?
It seems we can’t wait to go back in time.
To when the elite ruled with a rod of iron.
I wonder what it is the children see?
When they look at you and me?
With access to our history, how we compare to
men and women that fought and died for our
democracy?
I wonder why we want to stand alone?
I wonder why we are punished by our elected own?
Now the half-truths don’t cut it anymore.
Now the lies and deceits just come and keep coming
full-bore.
I wonder how it is for you?
I wonder do you wonder how it is for me?
Do we turn away from all in need?
Do we stamp on the sacrifices made for democracy?
Is England now just all about selfish airs,
mind blocked cares, racist undertones and fascist
greed?
