We've Never Met You Alive
"God" I asked "why is life this way?"
"You didn't see it," He said, "it slipped away"
"Such a shame, you missed the light"
"It faded while you wept that night"
Don't regret the tears you shed,
For grief should bring relief instead.
Pain must rest, it has its time,
No more need for endless cries
But only those who rise survive.
"You took my loved ones" I said, "but why?"
"Live for yourself," He said, "don't live a lie."
"If you can't, then learn to see"
"And if you won't, then listen to me."
"What's gone is gone. Let it be."
"Tell me," I asked, "what deaths have you known?"
"Too many," He sighed, "too many to show."
"But the worst of all, the cruelest ties"
"Were the ones that ended in pretty lies."
"One last word before you go?"
Mr. Death, I've come to know
We've never met while still alive
And maybe that's why we survived.
