Were You Ever Different?

You’re still the same untouched and aloof Too sharp for lies too blind for proof No one comes close to your pace A ghost with charm…a vanished face Money chased becomes a stain Crossing the line to dance in the rain Laundered bills and crooked pride A smirk you never learned to hide Blunt at edges and slow to heal Pain you press but never feel Twist and flex to slip beneath The pressure cracks your gritted teeth Typos keyed with frantic hands Dreams lost in the greedy sands Slippery slope missing your flight Clinging to your code beneath neon light Creeping in silence wrapped in haze Speech runs in drunken phrase Throwbacks worn like second skin The past still trying to escape and begin Sunrise pierces the horizon’s seam A slow unraveling of a dream Overrun yet standing foolishly proud While dreams dissolve inside a cloud Pride balloons behind your grin Drifting high on air too thin You’re still the same both near and far A fading shape behind a damning scar Back and forth you haunt the steam Trading truth for one more scheme Clock rewound but sold your stake Hope was just a risk you had to take Future in jeopardy after your skid Belittled by what time once hid Think fast…you’re completely losing track Strays like you don’t make it back

Seamless rhymes with a great rhythm and engaging subject matter! It makes me think of the Michael Jackson song and video “Smooth Criminal”. Is this for contest? Great job!

Loved the in-your-face rhetoric! Dare we judge or just observe? lol Thanks for sharing.
