Welcome Home
As children with dreams of fighting for a cause,
to be a part of a greater good
they enter into the armed forces.
Unknowing of the sources of real battle scars,
they eagerly serve with pride, honor and heart.
Many may never see action, but the sounds
and possibly the afflicted that they see
leave a permanent mark, inerasable
in the hallows of their minds and hearts.
For those that do return, unaffected physically,
think not that they can acclimate easily,
for their scars have more depth,
more discerning qualities, that left untreated
may fester into a soldiers self demise.
Look not past their eyes and salute.
Salute them and look into their eyes
allowing them the knowledge
that we welcome them home with pride
and more importantly, with care.
For a soldier may be strong and tested,
but the heart of a victim may be fragile.
