Wednesday Night Comedy

Alex, my siter reads
to me what she will read
her class tomorrow,
a springy spring poem
by Eileen Fisher.

“Peck, peck, peck
on the little brown egg.”

An hour earlier,
I beat my husband
at an excruciating
and embarrassing
game of chess
for him.

Then the winner
must deal
with the verbal backlash.
Whop-eesh!

“What have you done
today to help out
around the house?
Name one thing!”

Moment of reflection
Inserted here…

“I showed up.”

“Great Jen.
Worthy of a poem,
I’d say. It’s haiku
worthy!”
