Wedding Gifts of Yester Year

In the olden days, when we were in covered wagons And stoking the fire before the kids arrived on horseback the bride-to-be did not ask for specific wedding gifts You bought people what you liked, hoping they would like it too. I loved a pink and white bowl set; it was gorgeous! So I bought if for my pal Sherry when she got married. A month later she was showing me their new apartment. Here is the closet of stuff we did not like, she said. My pink and white bowl set was right out in front. The box unopened. I wanted to grab it and run with it. But I was too socialized to do it.

Well, frankly, I think that was a very unthinking thing for her to do. Did she not even remember who gave it to her? Any more, I don't attend weddings, and I don't send gifts. I have reached the age where I can forego those things and get away with it.

I think she received so many gifts, she probably showed all of us our discarded gifts.
