We Were the Future
We were the future once
full of hope and promises
We’d change the world,
set it on a course
to freely love, laugh and sing and dance,
embrace equality.
It was just a dream,
an illusionary expression
of what we thought could be.
How have times changed?
How can we still be the same?
Slip away a moment into time
as life progresses
and continues to unwind,
the timeline disappears
and life remains stagnant,
seemingly unchanged
throughout the years.
Who are you now,
how do you see yourself,
you movers and shakers of time gone,
tell me,
What is it that you still seek?
The future is unfolding,
give me just a little peek.
