We were the Civilization of Civilized

people ask what happened to us
we were like you, but more alive
for we did not have electronics to distract us from living
we listened to each other
and responded in kind

we were a proud nation, expecting the best of everyone
positivity was our truth; we had good hearts
our minds were pure, we were believers in a spirit world
our religion included everyone, no one was excluded
we were more evolved than you are

We never expected to go like we did
a flood got us, washed us out to sea in a few hours
we were holding on to each other at first
because we were united, we were one
we were the civilization of civilized
