We Push the Pen

We push the pen to make you feel
the gentle tapping of the falling rain,
the stinging burn of the summer sun
the heavy heart of despair and pain.

We push the pen to make you see
the vibrant orange of a monarch wing,
the secretive soul hidden in our eyes,
the golden sunrise in early morning.

We push the pen to make you taste
the sweetness of love's first kiss,
the bitterness of heartbreaking defeat
the richness of pure chocolate bliss.

We push the pen to make you hear
the clear waters babbling in the brook,
the forgotten laughter of our inner child
the cracking spine of a brand new book.

We push the pen to make you savor
the pungent petals of the red rose,
the crisp aroma of a tart green apple
the autumn air that excites the nose.

We each push the pen in different ways
with our own tone of voice and mystique,
an art form that no other can duplicate,
no right or wrong, just wonderfully unique.

We all write for many different reasons but all meant to connect with our readers in some way, and we all have our own unique way of connecting. I enjoyed reading this earlier piece of yours Kelly. Happy holidays to you and yours. John

Hi again Kelly. What a great poem this one is. I read it a couple of times because it truly does bring out our desire to reach the soul of others. To help them feel and smell and hear the world as we see it. A maybe even take another look at the world that surrounds them and appreciate it a little more. I also push the pen first before the keys. I believe there is a natural flow from the heart to the hand we were born to write with. I won't take a chance on missing words from the heart. Robert.

Writing with a pen and paper feels much more natural and comfortable for me, and it allows me to rewrite and work on a poem until I'm happy with it or if the words just aren't flowing well :) Thank you once again for taking the time to read and comment on my poems. I appreciate that so much, my friend.

Will do!... We don't realize that the words we write could be helping someone and changing their lives for the better.

Love it, and so right, we each carve different sculptures of magic from the same stone of language, nice flow and coverage of the poetic senses...

You absolutely NAILED it with the second and last line of verse six Kelly...The introduction 'We push the pen' to the others is perfect. Every line is a true gem but alas, I am not a pen-pusher but a Microsoft Word worder...Another fav (sigh) When WILL it all end? - Tim

I still write my poems the old fashion way, with a pen and paper. It is just more comfortable for me and there is no chance of accidently deleting them!... I truly appreciate your great comments and the fav. Thank you, Tim! :)

This fine write captures why we struggle to write. Even when its so hard we strive to force out the words. A desire to give to others is primary drive for so many of us! Keep pushing the pen and painting canvas with inspiring words! A super 7 on this one.. A gem....

When I started writing it was mainly for myself. Then, when I began to share my poems publicly it made me want to continue writing, because people were enjoying what I was doing and that made me feel good... Thank you so much for your nice comments, Robert. I really appreciate it, my friend!
