We Must Live

We suffer greatly
So that the task
Of helping others
Can be accomplished.
Let the chorus of anguish
Sing in our hearts,
And be heard
In the streets of despair.

We must live
So as to bring
Our brothers through the night,
Which we have been blessed
To endure.
We, who have suffered
Beyond all endurance,
Possess the fire 
To show the way.


Written after reading "Night" by Elie Wiesel.

This is part of the reason that 12-Step groups have become so prevalent ... those who help others the best are those who have been there!! Bella Cardenas December 31, 2008 at 12:51 AM oooh this is good. I like the darkness of the piece, and all the pauses are accentuated neatly and it packs a punch. I have never read anything by Elie Wiesel, but I'm thinking about it now. Excellent job.
