We Live In Penury

All the comforts that modern life bestows
On the human race across the seven seas
Despite advances in material acquisitions
We still live in penury that is not material.

Ample instances of powerful nations with
Abundance of wealth and material riches
And affluence kissing them in all exuberance
Do still live in penury that is not material.

The wealth that men accumulate in their life
For living in comfort and ease without strife
Do surely help in bolstering the exalted hype
But still live in penury that is not material.

All the progress achieved to make our life rich
Have miserably failed the mankind to realize
With vigorous efforts to reach the goal set
We still live in penury that is not material.

Those who understand the futility of riches’
Are the ones that lead truly a wealthy life
The rest though found rolling in affluence
Still live in penury that is not material.

Dear Ramesh, this is a great piece, well written. It flows so well with an exquisite vocab., a truly philosophical poem. Tiaua.
