We Hesitate

rushing forward into love, we hesitate
give pause and thought
then continue into each other’s embrace
it is a clean slate
nothing forbidden
yet we hesitate, holding hands in the
cobblestone darkness
are we lovers or are we friends
is there a difference?
passion being overwhelming
we hesitate to set up lifestyle
we are mobile
and kiss at terminal entrances so
others see the intensity of our love
so overpowering and then
we hesitate
love comes in a bottle of cognac
and vanishes with the sober dawn
it flows and the valves are shut
we speak the words then
we hesitate

That conflict between "are we friends or lovers" is so hard. You captured it well, Janis. Congrats on your win ~ John

Sometimes it is good to hesitate, as when we rush we can make fools out of ourselves... Congratulations on your placement in the contest..
