We Exist

Us humans are delusional, in believing that we are the most superior
species than the rest of Earth's inhabitants. We are absolutely wrong!

                                                   We Exist

We exist and with fragmented knowledge proclaim
Power that bestows life most insouciantly measure
Beneath bones desires flourish inside a tumultuous
Paradise nurturing addiction and corporeal pleasure

Any notable achievements in no way measure up to
Towering ancient sequoias blind eyes must treasure
Pterodactyls soared first however mankind callously
Utilizes deceptions to shield indelible lies and failure

We exist and affirm that evolution manipulates form
Breathing or frozen designed with a magical process
Considering last Earth dragons significantly primeval
Man still heralds his species the apex amongst races

Creatures pervaded with such a narcissistic obsession
Convey and define this very biased principle pointless
Relinquish the crown and abandon a tyrannical stance
Or inexorably descend to the void of meaninglessness

Man of course is the crown of creation. But unfortunately humans behave even much inferior to animals with his treacherous ways and thoughtless acts. Instead of living, we simply exist ! A powerful reminder that all our claims to superiority are pointless ! A great write indeed!

Hello Valsa, it's good to hear from you and to hear your insight, I truly appreciate it! Yes, man assuming superiority among all other life forms on Earth, is I believe, saturated with too much arrogance, insecurities and delusions of grandeur. We need to do a lot better if we want our species to endure. Hope you're having good weather in Cochin, we have a cold front coming from up north, so Florida's temp. has plummeted...ab

Anselmo, you've composed an excellent piece of poetry prolifically. There are no broadly applicable standards for the greatest or the most subservient species since human beings are compelled to be revered. However, everybody is morally bounded for their deeds in the sight of God.

Thank you Lasaad, for such a profound commentary! I feel that, like a zoo, the curator has to display kindness and compassion, to all the inhabitants, otherwise the whole environment won't survive...ab

Thanks so much Bill for the visit and for the uplifting remark! Even if it's not always the case, I do try to express my real emotions toward issues I care about. Have a great evening...ab

I agree with Gershon. Everyone should read the Torah and abide by it. Victor

Interesting write... Here's the traditional Jewish take on man's 'superiority' to other creatures: If we walk in God's ways -- befriending the widow, the orphan, the poor, and the stranger -- then we are, indeed, superior. However, if we merely walk down our own selfish path in life, then we are lowlier than the common housefly or gnat. ~ Peace, Gershon

If what you state is from the Torah, which I unfortunately have not read, I humbly say that this poem in a way, parallels that lesson. Thanks for sharing a nugget of wisdom Gershon! Much appreciated. Shalom...ab
