We Counted You As Family

The tears burn my skin as they stream down my face
Dripping slowly to the floor
Crashing and shattering on impact
Just as the many pieces of my broken heart have done
You betrayed all of us
It did not matter that we loved you as our own, as family
Like a thief with no thought of the consequences
You stole something so precious
You took away the innocence of my child
Crushing it as if it were nothing more than dirt beneath your feet
You show no remorse for what you have done
Only sadness for the verdict that will send you away
An animal is what you are
Stalking your prey and gaining their trust
Using their faith against them
Luring your victim into your clutches
Then taking away the life that is within them
Even the title of child rapist is too kind for you
My beliefs are stained by the blackness of your soul
My heart is hardened by your selfishness
The evil inside of you has demolished something within me
Yet it has not consumed me
You have no respect for the unity that we tried to share with you
We were merely a stomping ground for your greed and lust
Nothing you do can replace what you have taken from us
No pain that you suffer can compare to the agony you have caused us
You cared nothing for the laws of men or God
My faith is lost to many because of men like you
I can’t help but wonder how anyone could be so cruel

What a grim dark picture you have painted here with your descriptive words. Good presentation.

In my opinion this is absolutely the worst type of betrayal to experience. That said, I'm glad your poem received well-deserved recognition in the contest, Lolita! Love, Carolyn

Profound writing here Lena ... how brave of you to tackle this subject and be true to the rage !! I'm all for bringing back castration myself ... but I guess with pedophiles it often doesn't go that far and any touching is out of bounds so just keep them locked up FOREVER is about the only way. Love you ....

Dear Lena, thank you for sharing your heart through this piece. If in this poem you think that the justice system was easy with this person, take consolation in the fact that they WILL have their day before God who does not look kindly on one's injustice to another. Your friend , Lightwalker

This is a sad write on a topic that needs to be out there because the more aware the public is about this the less it will happen and people get by with it. Of course, this person was probably molested also. I hope that this wasn't your family. Keep the creative pen flowing. Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my work. Sara

Gosh, Lena, and he was like family. It truly is the worst kind of betrayal. I think you wrote a similar poem earlier on this topic? This one really shows the depths of your sorrow . Very heartfelt and sad. LUv, Andrea

This would make an incredible entry for the betrayal contest, Lolita. To me, there is no greater betrayal than what you have described here. I hope the sentence matches the severity of the crime. God bless you; I wish I could take away some of your pain. And yet, you are such a good, caring person. I'm glad this didn't "consume you." Excellent poem! Love, Carolyn
