We Are the Generation

We are The Generation,
Holding tomorrow in the palm of our hands
Ancestors deemed us responsible
Yet Today only reprimands

We are The Generation, the majority
Of futile yearnings, beguiled by what
Only brings more shame…Beguiled by what
Only brings more shame

Embellished with the nudity we call fashion
Seeking the colors of the world in manicure
Beauty is now only material…
Attire, what a fine cure!

We are The Generation, we want to explore
The tastes of the world, in nicotine, in alcohol
It’s something we call fun!
Gossip, magazines… invaluable lore

We are articulate, we just love to curse
Between every couple of words, five oaths!
Our eligible vocabulary is written in scraps
In the fine poetry, we like to call rap

Love to us is very divine
My boyfriend and I have been together
For two months…eternity! We match, we intertwine
Our engagement is next week

Religion is to us an identity, a name
I am this and I am that
But we all squander our time just the same
We are one unity, remember?

We are The Generation, we are The Glory,
You know that magazine?
We hold the future in safe hands
We are The Generation… and more is yet to come

"We are articulate, we just love to curse Between every couple of words, five oaths! Our eligible vocabulary is written in scraps In the fine poetry, we like to call rap" I liked the whole thing but that stanza is so true. great job.

Wow, Farah.. what a true view towards the world..i love it.. there was a point when i stopped even hoping to find unmaterialistic people around me, looking at what fake life is turning to be, but now i know that was a huge mistake... thanx for ur comment "al adyan toufarreq laken al iman yajma3 " one of my best quotes.. mwahhh

Wow, really ironic.....brings about your point. I have had some of these thoughts, too. People are neglecting their spiritual essence! It's so sad. Lisa Gerrard, a spiritualist singer and songwriter, once said..."We are starving." We really are. Beautiful, Farah....keep writing! Regards, Sara

What a beautiful critical analysis of the generation your poem We are the Generation is -very boldly written -out of this world. You have unveiled the face of Burger eating, Pepsi and Coke drinking, semi nude, hip swinging generation who will mother the children of the future. Your poem is a warning signal, Farah. - Mohammad

I went from Pepsi to Coke generation to Disco the peace movement no Woodstock were all comercialized and peer group pressures sometimes shape who we are. Be yourself, that would be the me generation. Very nicely done you provoked some good memories. blessings Michael.

Incredible and completely true. I live in the same world you are speaking of, the same generation and yet I do not follow it, neither do I abandon it. And let's say most what you have written, I am doing without thinking and I guess I'm just waiting for an epiphany, but I doubt it. Very thoughtful write, very much enjoyed it. Hope you see you soon old friend. Sami.

this is a very different time and place for your generation, but just because you are young does not mean that wisdom, can not be had or attained, yes osme of your generation has no morals or thoughts except for self but I happen to know quite a few of your generation are different adn so are you and in this case different is better and special, and thank you for your comments, young but special one, take care D-ncye

This is an excellent poem. It flows very well and touches on various contemporary principles, some good, some otherwise. I can see the images of the now generation and how they are living their lives. Certainly, it varies from the past generations. However, life is not static; it's dynamic and ever evolving. I like the essence of the poem and the consistency of the theme. Great job! ~Joseph

I'm glad that my comment was taken correctly it is something I've wanted to say a long time but was afraid that I would offend which I would never hope to do - I agree with Sharon in the fact that your wisdom is far beyond your years - Forever cherish the things in your heart that matter and don't let life get you to ever change for you "Young One" are very special - It is my honor to know you

So much cynicism here for one so young, but then as we all know, you are far ahead of your years. Sadly, there is also so much truth here. I am glad you are so wise, for all that you "see". You will leave your mark upon the world, and it will be bright and beautiful, as you already are. Never change, and never stop writing. Always exceptional poetry! Love, Shar xoxo

and I totally admire the inner strength that you posses and pour into your poetry - The more of your poetry that I read the more impressed I become with the young lady who has taught me to see an entire region of the world in a whole new light - What I'm trying to say is that you are a messenger and your message has touched me very deeply because I have been blessed enough to get to know someone who posses an inner-peace that I can't even imagine - You rock youngster - Bless you and who you are

Farah and what a wonderful generation you are - I'm going to make an attempt at a compliment here and I sure do hope it comes out right - When I first started reading your poetry I had no idea what region of the earth you were from which truly is a compliment in itself. I know that there is no way I could ever fathom the trials and hardships that one must face growing up in your region and you do it with such style and grace that it amazes me - I am very honored to know you cont.
