We Are Alone
No matter our relationships and their details,
we all share a commonality that prevails.
It is a truth I have tried and failed to disown.
No matter love depths grown securely known -
at times we are alone, all alone – alone.
Wake the same morn, share the same night,
know full lives lived within each other’s sight
in the same house with one glowing night light,
and still, there is no way this truth loses bone -
at times we are alone, all alone – alone.
Once and more, life will steer our hearts to tears
and no matter the love that surrounds us,
there are times none appears to calm our fuss.
Each shatter is deeper when no love is shown -
at times we are alone, all alone – alone.
Days come to all when sadness lacks a shoulder lent.
Issues can find us that a love’s coldness may augment.
In life, all will ponder time as relationship-torment.
All couples eventually ache from harmony blown –
at times we are alone, all alone – alone.
