Watery Eyes

The sound of cars off in the distance
reminded me of how fast
this journey we are on
can be;
the water flowing beside me
told another tale
of the calm, relaxing time
of days now gone...
open prairie overlooked by bright blue sky,
wild grain waving to and fro,
calming silence that could only be broken
by the sound of thundering herds,
or the raging storms cascading down.
There is peace in the water I stand beside,
I want to forever drink of its youth,
of its essence...
of its memory.
