Notes About The Poem

                  watercolor by Lin Lane

Watercolors on Onion Skin

Across delicate veins of onion skin,
rivers of water begin to gently flow
in subtle shades of Aquarius blues
and seaweed greens, unseen beneath
the ebbing waves traversing a salty sea

Crashing against rock hued cliffs,
their splashes are created by nature.
Unlike the tides of onion skin paper ~
where the scene is guided by the tilt
of a hand that is never in command

It's never guaranteed to be distinct ~
as a mountain top with crests of snow,
or a lake where ripples waiver in the sun
nor granite fallen from a cliff's ledge

On sheafs, watercolors ripple over aqua seas,
forty fluid fathoms from shallow to deep
where boulders have been etched in time
in layered hues of russet from cliffs of stone
older than myths on poetry’s parchment pages.

There's a vision found in abstract art,
never identical to humans with keen eyes,
but when blended with the touch of a wet brush
and the onion skin whispers, "What do you see"
I walk away, accepting water's final thought...
"I choose not to breach a dam"

Thank you, Beryl. I’m trying to go with the flow with watercolors. ;-)

You're a brilliant artist Lin.not forgetting a brilliant poet too. You must have a very steady hand to produce paintings like that, I think if I attempted it would be very smudged lol. Tom

The only credit to my hand in this one, Tom was the amount of tilt I gave the paper for it to mix with my color choices when they met water. It's a game of chance that the end result will be something I like enough not to trash. This one was on dry paper with a wet brush, just enough to touch the colors. The mingling was their choice. I'm glad you like it, but to brush this one... stroke for stroke...no can do. I'm new to watercolor art, but the challenge is fun.
