Washing Day

Betty, she had done some washing She hung it on the line The sun it shone down, so she hoped The weather it would be fine Then John (her husband) heard the forecast He told her that it looked like rain And so she did think to herself "I'd better bring it in again" Soon the sky turned black and cloudy And the wind began to blow Then, they were taken by surprise Cause then that rain did turn to snow

The sun is like the wind they both come and go without notification. I like this one is simple and sweet but Betty has a lazy man. He could have helped hang the clothes inside

Vera: My grandma always said while she hung the "wash" on the line in cold weather: "It will freeze dry". The only thing I've seen that work on is instant coffee. :o) Thanks for bringing back an old memory for me. Keep them coming. oldbuck

Well I hang washing out on the line every day here and by time I get the second lot out the first lot is dry, that's how hot it is here, in the winter I will use the dryer but only if it is wet outside and that's not very often, thank you for this lovely comment so glad it bought back a memory, take care .......Vera

Great poem that reminds me of back when our mother sun/wind dryed our clothes outside on the clothesline. We once woke up to our school clothes to be worn that day frozen stiff on the line. I enjoyed my day off from school...

Robert my friend, how lovely to see you, so glad you liked this one, now to me that is strange washing frozen, I would love to see that happen to mine, it would make a change, in summer mine dries ten minutes after I put it out, as soon as one loan goes out I bring the other load in, the difference in our weather,, hope you are all well, take care my friend.......Vera

Hi Sara, thank you for your delightful little comment, lovely to see you, just because I don't comment on your poems doesn't mean I don't read them, I don't have time sitting on the computer all day, but I do like your work, glad you are all well, we are, Peter is still having problems from his hip operation but there is nothing they can do for him, so it looks like he will have to live with it, anyway so glad you liked this one, take care.....Vera

What a lovely, cute poem, Vera! Luckily we put our washing under cover while still being able to catch the sun and wind, so if the weather turns ugly we can still leave it out...no chance of snow, though!! Warm regards // paul

Thank you Paul, yes I am quite lucky really having the line under our verandah, it gets the morning shade as I am hanging it and then afternoon sun to dry it and no it doesn't get wet when it does rain, but no chance of snow here either, Take care.......Vera

Hi Richard, hope you and the family are well, thank you for the visit, that is like me getting it in in time, but it very rarely rains here and also my line is undercover so I have no problems really, too costly to run the dryer, glad you liked this little piece take care.......Vera

Hi Rick, thank you for the lovely comment, typical of Melbourne rain, we lived there for three years and all I can remember is the rain, you live in the wrong state mate, as soon as I put the washing out it dries, but we are expecting thunderstorms next week so it will be the dryer, take care my friend........Vera

You triggered the memories of hanging everything on the line and running when the clouds came up. I remember hanging clothes when they would freeze like a board as I hung them. Thanks.

Hi Sunlite, thank goodness my washing doesn't freeze, obviously you live where it snows, we are very lucky it doesn't get quite that cold here in Australia, as soon as I hang the washing it dries before I put the next lot out, mind you next week we are expecting thunderstorms so I will have to use the dryer, anyway take care .......Vera

So glad I made you smile Jan, you are right they never get it right typical, in fact they have predicted storms next week even though we are in our summer, this week it is 37c and next week storms, believe it when I see it, but I will still get my washing dry just put it in the dryer, so what if we get a large Electricity Bill, hope you are well my friend, take care.......Vera
