"warm Pound Cake"

Might sound boring to some..
But my favorite dessert is my Mom's
fresh out of the oven pound cake..
As a child I remember winter afternoon's
playing in my room..
The aroma would travel from the stove
to the stairs..
And whatever you were doing you would
drop without a care..
Fresh out of the oven and so warm to the
touch..
A sliver cut as the slice would stick to the
knife so much..
The best would be a scoop of vanilla ice cream
dropped on top...
The warmth of the cake would melt that scoop
as your taste buds can't stop..
That first fork full would be heaven in your
mouth..
And at one point it was all gone as my Dad would
come home, "where's mine he would shout"!

Michael, I have to have tons of frosting and exotic ice cream to enjoy a dessert, but I know many who prefer plain ones. Yours is an excellent tribute to that type of dessert. A WELL DESERVED win on your excellent poem . Luv, andrea

Michael, my mother made great pound cakes also but not when I was a young child....Mostly bought cakes then because she worked...She made pies for it was much faster...When I was in my teens, she helped me to learn to do cakes and this whetted her interest in baking cakes again...She was known then as one of the best bakers in town...Her sour creme pound cake was the best...This reminded me so much of her even the though of the aroma coming from the kitchen was revealed in your work...Sara
