War of the Words

Today there's a War of the Words going on Today there's a War of the Words. It's taking place all over this beautiful land of ours Polluting our precious air and clear-blue streams Muddying our forests, our meadows, our parks, Trashing our buildings, our subways, our cityscapes. Today there's a War of the Words going on In our workplaces -- our offices, factories, and construction sites In our schools -- our classrooms, corridors, and teachers lounges In our palaces of entertainment -- our theaters, concert halls, and sports stadiums. Today there's a War of the Words just about everywhere you turn; It's almost impossible to avoid being a minor casualty if you have two ears. Because today there's a War of the Words going on around us: Foul-smelling and tasting, putrid, gross, abominable, wretched, Horribly inexpressive, unacceptable, not-so-long-ago prohibited Unthinkable even, insensitive, insensible, but uncensored Curse Words. There's a War going on, my friends: A War for the Soul of this Nation: Let us return to civility, to civil discourse, to reasoned discussion To toleration of others and others' opinions or idiosyncrasies To a time when rage was not found on the road or the radio and Rants were not heard from nearly everyone on everything everywhere. America: Let us win This ongoing War of the Words Let us self-censor our Curse Words Entry in "Societal Discontent" contest, sponsored by Brendan J. Simons Deadline: April 23, 2018

Oh how your powerfully expressed, eloquent and elegant poem strikes a chord with me, Gershon.. I love your civil message on civility, especially; 'A war for the Soul of this Nation: Let us return to civility, to civil discourse, to reasoned discussion' and 'To a time when rage was not found on the road or the radio and Rants were not heard from nearly everyone on everything everywhere.' I just adore your last line here.. Brilliant poetry, my friend..

Susan, your words lift me up to a place lighter than air--on wings of eagles. Thank you from the bottom of whatever heart the Good Lord gave me for your uplifting words. May you and yours be blessed this holiday weekend! :) Gershon

You won this contest in my eyes with this one Gershon. Can you hear loud bullhorn cheering from Omaha? That is me!

Thank you so much, Caren...and you know, I can hear those bullhorns ever so faintly from here in Chicago. Blessings, Gershon
