WAR AND PEACE

WAR AND PEACE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Last Letter Home three syllables sharp as shrapnel: “Mother, I'm cold.” Silence, then snowfall. Peace Treaty rusted rifle leans against the cherry tree— first bloom since the cease-fire. After the Guns cicadas resume their dry hymn—where tank treads rusted, a poppy unfurls.

Sara, the concise imagery of snow (death), cherry blossoms (peace), and poppies (remembrance) are poignant reminders of the devastation of war and its aftermath. Congratulations on your top 10 win on Mile 19 of my 2025 Poetry Marathon Contest. Keep your running shoes on, because Mile 20 has already started.

Very impressive work, Sara B. As it has been defined, "war is hell". This is emotive and descriptive work using contrast to make it make its mark. Thanks for sharing it with us. Sara K

I think these are great vignettes for 'War and Peace,' Sara. Vivid, fresh -- and searing. ~ Gershon
